previously, `builtins.break` didn't force its argument, resulting in
a value wrapped with `break` being opaque to most builtins if not
also wrapped with `seq`. see [lix-project/lix#1165] for more details
on what this can break.
this tiny fix just adds a call to `forceValue` inside `prim_break`,
but unfortunately this "breaks" a few existing tests because it
changes the call stack; those tests' golden outputs have been adjusted
without modifying their intended purpose.

See [lix-project/lix#1156], but basically currently the `:st <n>`
debugger command doesn't allow any negative indices, and putting a plus
sign in front of the arg doesn't change anything; thus, we can exploit
that "design space" to allow users to move between different stack
frames easily, by simply prepending their arg with a +/- sign.
The actual behavior is little more nuanced when you account for errors:
as suggested by @pennae (thanks! :), when the user inputs an offset that
would result in an invalid frame index, the debugger instead clamps it
to the closest bound (i.e. 0 for negative offsets, $maxFrame for
positive ones) and just prints a warning.

currently, the `:st <n>` command in the debugger will simply silently
fail if the argument cannot be converted to an integer, or if it falls
outside the range of valid stack indices. this isn't too big of problem,
but it can be nicer to tell the user something went wrong, rather than
not give them any output and having them guess (esp. in the second case).
this commit adds two errors, one for each case:
1. the argument is not actually an integer, or is outside INT_MIN/MAX
-> "argument '%arg' is not a valid integer"
2. the argument is an integer outside the range of stack traces
-> "stack index must be between 0 and %max_frame, but was %arg"

It's 2026 and the command handler was entirely manual!
We introduce a basic command handler framework for the REPL that handles
all the previous (implicit) features reasonably well.
This also builds up the infrastructure for nicer features.
Most important feature is that now we can let external plugins adds
commands to the REPL.
There's slight REPL changes:
- errors for debugger commands are more explicit.
- short-hand have a long-hand version.
- help shows command sorted by std::map natural key sorting (based on aliases)
while keeping the special syntaxes for the REPL language at the top.
- sections were introduced for Flakes commands.
- :st was merged into one command with an optional argument marker.

Previously two cryptography libraries were linked into Lix: OpenSSL used for
hashing and (in usual configurations) indirectly via curl for TLS, and Sodium
used only for handling the Ed25519 path info signatures. The latter is
functionally redundant since OpenSSL supports the same use case as well.
Reimplement the Ed25519 handling using OpenSSL and drop Sodium.

lowdown 1.4.0 changed the lowdown_opts to include a new and separate
lowdown_opts_term which allows for configuring values specific to
-Tterm (which we're using). This version should have been called 2.0.0
according to semver, hence 2.0.0 was released later without any actual
breaking changes to sort of migitate the problem.
We need to support lowdown >= 1.3 && < 1.4 since the ship has sailed for
updating lowdown in NixOS 25.05 as well as lowdown >= 1.4 or we'll be
stuck in Nixpkgs forever. Support for < 1.4 can be dropped as soon as
NixOS 25.05 is EOL, assuming this change lands before NixOS 25.11
branch-off.
We detect the changed API based on the lowdown version from pkg-config
and define LOWDOWN_SEPARATE_TERM_OPTS based on that. The ifdef is named
according to the specific API change that impacts us, so that it's
hopefully a little simpler to maintain going forward. In the new API,
all newly configurable settings use what would have been the (implicit)
default before. Changing some of these values, especially hpadding,
could be interesting in future changes.
Compared to cl/3081, this change makes sure to initialize all new fields
of lowdown_opts_term explicitly.
It seems that, while making -Tterm more configurable, lowdown's word
wrapping behavior changed slightly which broke basic_repl.test. I've
chosen to work around this by using builtins.add as an example which has
a very short documentation string, so wrapping doesn't matter.

This results in anything that uses nixpkgs getting stopped in the
debugger inside of nixpkgs internals, which are usually irrelevant.
Let's default to the more useful option.

The reason this gets hit is because of the debugger in flakes. Otherwise
you never have a repl in pure mode anyway.
We evaluate the repl-overlay file in impure mode but this doesn't do
what one would initially expect.

We now properly shell out to the parser instead of hacking stuff
together with a regex. Stuff we get for free by doing this:
- Optional trailing semicolon
- Declaring nested attribute sets
- String identifiers, and future proofing for eventual grammar
improvements to identifiers
- Dynamic attributes

a65e9e5828 did not inform `tryEval` that
(as far as it's concerned) `state.debug` moved to `state.errors.debug`
and changed types. this resulted in the REPL erroneously coming up, that
REPL having a non-debug state, and segfaulting after that REPL exited.
it's probably good that `state.debug` isn't mutated by `--ignore-try`
anymore.

this also fixes a debugger bug where leaving the debugger does not clean
up old debugger state completely. in such cases the fake frame withFrame
created was left behind after the corresponding caller frame was unwound

checking whether a repl hook is set does not tell whether it's running,
which in turn means we will enter a debug repl even when not debugging.
this is not very useful when we have no debug frames to inspect at all,
as commonly happens when starting a new repl with --debugger specified.

What if you could find memory bugs in Lix without really trying very
hard? I've had variously scuffed patches to do this, but this is
blocked on boost coroutines removal at this point tbh.

When pretty-printing is enabled, previously an unforced thunk would trigger
indentation, even when it subsequently does not evaluate to a nested structure.
The resulting output looked inconsistent, and furthermore pretty-printing was
not idempotent (since pretty-printing the same value again, which is now fully
evaluated, will not trigger indentation).
When strict evaluation is enabled, force the item before inspecting its type,
so that it is properly known whether it contains a nested structure.
Furthermore, there is no need to cause indentation for unforced thunks, since
the very next operation will be printing them as `«thunk»`.
This is mostly a port of https://github.com/NixOS/nix/pull/11100 , but we only
force the item when it's going to be forced anyway due to strict
pretty-printing, and a new test was written since the REPL testing framework in
Lix is different.

and modify the top-level bindings in `nix repl`. For example, with the

- Use a recursive descent parser so that it's easy to extend.
- Add `@args` to enable customizing command-line arguments
- Add `@should-start` to enable `nix repl` tests that error before
entering the REPL
- Make sure to read all stdout output before comparing. This catches
some extra output we were tossing out before!

static env association is from expr to its enclosing scope, but let
exprs set their association to their *inner* scope. this skips one level
of envs and will cause segfaults if the parent is a with expr.

not doing this exposes the binding name order to the annoying
interference of parse order on symbol order, which wouldn't be so bad if
it didn't make the tests less reliable and, importantly, dependent on
linker behavior (due to primop initialization being done in static
initializer, and the order of static initializers being defined only
within a single translation unit).
